Reviews Overview

Most Liked

Visitors rave about the Bay Horse's friendly staff, who go above and beyond to ensure everyone has a great experience. The food earns high praise, especially the generous portions and quality ingredients. The hot roast beef sandwich, served on fresh bread, is a favorite among many. For those who enjoy a drink, the pub boasts an impressive selection of beers and ales, with regular mentions of great local brews. The atmosphere radiates warmth, with cheerful locals and lovely decor, making it a great spot for gathering with friends or making new ones. The pub’s accessibility features, including wheelchair-friendly entrances, add to its overall appeal.

Most Disliked

Some patrons express disappointment during peak weekend hours, citing longer wait times for food and drink. A few have noted that the pub can get quite crowded on Fridays, particularly around 4 PM, leading to a bustling atmosphere that might not be ideal for those seeking a quiet meal. Additionally, while most menu items are well-received, there are occasional comments about specific dishes running out late in the evening, especially during busy nights. However, these issues are generally outweighed by the positive experiences shared by guests.

What a lovely pub. I broke down in Cowling- I had to wait a very long time for the RAC. Thank goodness I found this amazing pub. The land lady was so lovely and so were the locals. They made me feel so welcome. Spotless toilets too! I’ll have to come back as the beer looked really good! Thank you so much.

Lovely, welcoming pub with great food. They have a new chef who started in March 2023. Had a lovely hot roast beef sandwich for lunch which came on fresh, home-baked bread and with a delightful salad. Excellent value. They had some lovely cakes too which are available all day with teas and coffees. The pub is surrounded by amazing countryside, so it's ideal for a pit stop on your walk and your dogs are well catered for too.

Called in on spec after a village walk. Opens at 2pm midweek. Welcoming staff, very eager to accommodate our dietary requirements. Good selection of drinks and sandwiches and hot meals. Good sized helpings. Friendly bar staff and very customers keen to offer information about the village history.

Really enjoyed our food here over the Bank Holiday weekend. We wanted a pub walkable from our Airbnb cottage and found this place. Its not posh , and isn't trying to be anything other than an honest little local . I had the fish pie and it was just so tasty and full of fish in a lovely sauce . The young lady who served us was just delightful and the beer was good .

It is very difficult to fault this establishment. The food was top class and much enjoyed. We ordered burgers, scampi, and a gammon steak, and all were at the top of their game. They were accompanied by beautiful chips and the price for these were very reasonable. To cap all this, the staff are very friendly, the service was good, there is a pool table, and it is dog friendly. What more could you ask for?

Camping nearby and after a walk my wife and I called at the Bay. Was met by a friendly was bar maid and 2 Taylors ales. I tried the Landlord and it was excellent. The pub itself is really nice and the locals were friendly. Will be returning.

A wet and windy day when we popped in around 11.30, only had a coffee but the wife had to have a cake and hot chocolate! Lovely conversations with the landlord and customers so going back soon to try a decent selection of beers. Now living near this pub so beers are excellent, Timothy Taylor Champions Club, food is very good and plenty of it, loving being this close.
